New Japanese Visa from April 2019

Classification of Specified Skills (including Manual labor)

 

 The new visa classification is called 特定技能(tokutei gino-“Specified skills”)and allows foreigners to work in Japan from 14 different fields including manual labor. They are planning to implement 2 types of this new visa called type 1 (1号―Ichigo) and type 2 (2号―Nigou).

Who can apply for the visa?

  • Age: 18 years old and above
  • For foreigners – Overseas

Passed overseas examination (Skill test and Japanese language test)

Or

Technical Intern Training Program type 2 is well finished (returned their country)

  • For foreigners – Staying in Japan

Passed examination (skill test and Japanese language test)

Or

Foreigners – well finished Technical Intern Training Program type 2 (staying in Japan)

SKILL TEST

  1. “Nursing care skills evaluation test”
  • Language: Native Language of the country where the test is implemented
  • Organizer: The private business operator will be selected by Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare after the budget approval
  • Method of the test: Computer-based testing(CBT) method
  • Frequency of the test

Abroad: approximately 6 times a year

In Japan: TBD

  • Starting date: April 2019

JAPANESE PROFICIENCY TEST

  1. “Japan Foundation Test for Basic Japanese”(JFT BASIC
  • Organizer: The Japan Foundation
  • Method of the test: Computer-based testing(CBT) method
  • Frequency of the test: Approximately 6 times a year, abroad
  • Starting date: April 2019

OR “Japanese language Proficiency Test N4 and above

  1. “Nursing care Japanese language evaluation test”
  • Organizer: the private business operator will be selected by Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare after the budget approval
  • Method of the test: Computer-based testing(CBT) method
  • Frequency of the test Abroad: approximately 6 times a year In Japan: TBD
